Policy Platform
01

Affordability, Housing & Welfare

Cut the everyday cost of being a student, fight housing pressure and expand practical support when students need it most.

15% Guild Discount+
Momentum will push to increase the Guild Discount from 10% to 15%, giving students a bigger saving every time they shop at participating Guild outlets and putting more money back in students’ pockets.
Protect & Expand $5 Meals+
Momentum will protect and expand $5 Student Saver Meals at every Guild food outlet, with more variety, options that meet different dietary and cultural needs, and menus shaped through consultation with students.
Free Daily Breakfast+
Momentum will deliver a free daily breakfast program on campus, giving students access to a simple, nutritious meal every day and helping take some of the pressure off the cost of studying.
$10 Meal Cap+
Momentum will introduce a $10 meal cap for students at the Central Cafe, ensuring students can always access a filling meal for no more than $10 and making affordable food a permanent part of campus life.
Cheaper Transport & Parking+
Momentum will continue the fight for free parking, more parking and better public transport, reducing the cost of getting to university and pushing for transport options that actually work for students travelling from across Perth and beyond.
Cheaper Course Essentials+
Momentum will work to make required uniforms, lab coats and other compulsory course clothing sold through the Guild the cheapest in WA, using bulk purchasing, supplier negotiations and subsidies to keep costs as low as possible for students.
Stronger Guild Pantry+
Momentum will strengthen the Guild Pantry and emergency food support, making groceries, essential items and fresh fruit and veg easier to access for students experiencing financial hardship.
Weekly Free Guild Meals+
Momentum will run free BBQs (with mustard!) and give out free meals every teaching week and massively expand the Guild’s Stress Less service during the exam period to provide more free hot drinks, snacks, food and support during stressful periods.
More Hardship Support+
Momentum will protect and expand student hardship and emergency assistance, including support for students facing unexpected financial pressure, housing insecurity or difficulty meeting essential living costs.
Cut the Hidden Costs of Study+
Momentum will fight to reduce the hidden costs of getting a degree, pushing for greater support with compulsory uniforms, equipment, textbooks, printing, checks, vaccinations, certifications and other required course expenses.
Fight Placement Poverty+
Momentum will fight placement poverty, advocating for all mandatory placements to be paid while expanding practical assistance with transport, accommodation, uniforms, checks, vaccinations, first aid and other unavoidable placement costs.
Free Printing for Exams+
Momentum will fight for a free printing allowance during exam periods, giving students access to free printing for revision notes, practice exams and other essential study materials when they need it most.
24/7 Hot Food & Drinks+
Momentum will roll out 24-hour hot food and drink vending machines on campus, giving students studying, working or attending campus late access to affordable meals and hot drinks when cafés and other food outlets are closed.
More Free Health Initiatives+
Momentum will expand free and low-cost preventative health initiatives, including period product dispensers that are filled regularly, STI testing, vaccinations, condoms and other practical measures that make everyday student life healthier and cheaper.
Better Health & Wellbeing Access+
Momentum will fight for better access to affordable healthcare and wellbeing services on campus, including shorter mental health waiting times, properly funded counselling, and improved access to medical, psychological, physiotherapy and other health services, so students can get support when they actually need it.
Support for Student Parents & Carers+
Momentum will strengthen support for students with children and caring responsibilities, including advocating for affordable childcare, family-friendly campus facilities and greater financial and practical support.
Food for Fines All Year+
Momentum will fight to make Food for Fines available throughout the year, giving students an alternative way to resolve eligible parking fines while supporting students experiencing food insecurity.
Fight for Fairer Student Housing+
Momentum will build on the landmark Stacked Against Students report delivered by Momentum office bearers and continue its campaign for immediate rent reductions and a rent freeze, safe cooling and air conditioning, stronger security and maintenance, greater student control and accountability, and an end to academic sanctions being used to enforce housing debt.
Stronger Accommodation Rights+
Momentum will fight for stronger rights for students living in university accommodation, including fair contracts, transparent fees, timely repairs, privacy, fair complaint processes, security of tenure and independent avenues for resolving disputes.
Statewide Rental Reform+
Momentum will work actively with Make Renting Fair WA to secure vital rental reforms across Western Australia, including stronger protections for student accommodation residents, boarders and lodgers and ensuring students are covered by the Residential Tenancy Act.
A Strong Voice on Cost of Living+
Momentum will ensure the Guild remains a strong voice on the cost-of-living crisis, campaigning for governments and Curtin to take action on housing, food, transport, healthcare and the other everyday costs that increasingly determine whether students can afford to stay at university.
02

Our Education

Fairer assessment, better teaching, more study space and a stronger student voice in every decision that shapes our education.

48hr Grace Period+
Momentum will advocate for a 48-hour grace period for written assessments, so a small delay does not immediately result in a disproportionate academic penalty.
40% Assessment Cap+
Momentum will advocate for a 40% Assessment Cap, so no single assessment is worth more than 40% of a unit’s final grade.
STOP the Merger+
Momentum will make stopping any forced merger of Curtin with another university one of the Guild’s biggest campaigns, mobilising students, staff and the wider community to protect Curtin’s courses, teaching, research, jobs, student representation and unique campuses, including Curtin Kalgoorlie and the WA School of Mines.
Protect 11:59pm Submission Times+
Momentum will protect Universal Submission Time as a major Momentum win and fight to ensure it is implemented properly in every unit across Curtin, with 11:59pm submission deadlines applied consistently and no students left dealing with uneven implementation.
Protect Tuition-Free Weeks+
Momentum will defend the introduction of two tuition-free weeks each semester and push Curtin to ensure they remain genuinely free from classes, assessment deadlines and unnecessary academic demands.
Fairer Simple Extensions+
Momentum will push for improved simple extensions for students who are parents or who are full time workers.
Better Assessment Feedback+
Momentum will fight for faster, clearer and more meaningful assessment feedback, so students understand not only what mark they received, but what they did well, what they need to improve and how to do better next time. And ensure hardwon student rights are upheld in all units.
Better Assessment & Exam Scheduling+
Momentum will advocate for better coordination of major assessments and exams, reducing unnecessary clusters of major deadlines, back-to-back exams and multiple exams on the same day wherever reasonably possible.
Stop Unnecessary Handwritten Exams+
Momentum will oppose unnecessary handwritten exams introduced simply as a response to AI, and advocate for accessible assessment methods that reflect the actual skills students need in their degrees and future professions.
No Compulsory AI in Teaching+
Momentum will fight against compulsory or inappropriate use of generative AI in teaching, including AI-generated lectures, tutorials and learning materials, and oppose forcing students to use AI where it adds no genuine educational value.
Up-to-Date Learning Materials+
Momentum will advocate for up-to-date lecture and tutorial materials, including making all notes from all classes accessible straight after a class, including for law classes. We will push for tutorers to add their verbal tutelage to their available notes so students who cannot attend classes do not miss out.
Better Staff Training+
Momentum will push for mandatory courses for teaching staff including first aid education, sunflower and hidden disability training, cultural awareness training, LGBTQIA+ Ally education, mental health training and event de-escalation. This will make academic spaces safer and more inclusive for all staff and students as well as improving the overall quality of education.
Fair AI & Integrity Rules+
Momentum will push for clear, fair and student-centred AI and academic integrity rules, ensuring students are taught how emerging technologies can and cannot be used without treating every student as a potential cheat.
Students’ Assembly on AI+
Momentum will establish a Students’ Assembly on AI, bringing together students from across Curtin to discuss how artificial intelligence should and should not be used in teaching, assessment and learning. Its recommendations will directly inform Guild policy and the Guild’s advocacy to Curtin, ensuring decisions about AI in our education are shaped by students, not made for us.
More Study Spaces+
Momentum will advocate for more indoor and outdoor study spaces across campus, including quiet spaces, individual workstations, group rooms, accessible power, shade, lighting and weather protection, and push for suitable classrooms to be opened as additional study areas during peak exam periods.
Better Unit Outlines+
Momentum will advocate for clearer and more useful unit outlines, including greater detail about what students will actually learn, how units will be delivered and what assessments will require, alongside better awareness of the Curtin Outlines Hub.
Simpler Credit Recognition+
Momentum will fight for a simpler, faster and more transparent credit-for-prior-learning process, with consistent rules, clear timelines, straightforward documentation requirements and better recognition of study completed through TAFE, other universities and alternative pathways.
Fight Placement Poverty+
Momentum will continue the fight to end placement poverty, campaigning for every compulsory placement and prac to be paid at a liveable rate while securing better support for transport, parking, accommodation, uniforms, vaccinations, checks and other unavoidable costs.
Placement Flexibility+
Momentum will push for fairer academic flexibility for students completing placements and practical requirements, particularly where double degrees, intensive pracs or placement schedules create unavoidable clashes with other study requirements.
More Practical Learning Access+
Momentum will advocate for extended access to appropriate clinical and practical learning facilities, including safe swipe-card access to suitable practice spaces where students can build skills before practical assessments and placements.
Allied Health Student Space+
Momentum will advocate for new and improved student common spaces across all schools such as an Allied Health Pavilion, repurposing an appropriate existing space to create a home for allied health students to study, practise, network, collaborate across disciplines and connect with Health Sciences clubs and future professions.
Better Textbook Access+
Momentum will push for better access to required textbooks and learning resources, including more digital copies where limited licences leave students unable to access essential readings before assessments and exams.
More Visible Faculty Reps+
Momentum will make Faculty Representatives more visible and accessible, including easy QR and online feedback pathways so students can raise academic issues throughout the year and see what their representatives are doing about them.
Stronger Peer Support+
Momentum will advocate for stronger mentoring and peer academic support, with better-trained mentors, meaningful check-ins and clearer ways for students to provide feedback on the support they receive.
Fight for Free Education+
Momentum believes in free education and will continue campaigning for governments to properly fund universities, reduce student debt and ultimately remove tuition fees as a barrier to higher education. Momentum will continue calling for the Job-ready Graduates scheme to be abolished and replaced with a fairer funding system.
Fight Course & Staff Cuts+
Momentum will fight course cuts, staff cuts and ever-growing class sizes, because quality education depends on students having access to educators, feedback and individual support.
Publish Class Size Data+
Momentum will push Curtin to publish and improve student-to-staff ratios and class-size information, giving students greater transparency about whether teaching resources are actually keeping pace with enrolments.
Better Support for Online Students+
Momentum will push for better support for online and remote students, ensuring students who pay the SSAF and study away from Bentley can access academic workshops, support, resources and opportunities rather than being treated as an afterthought.
Defend Student Voice+
Momentum will defend student voice in academic decision-making, ensuring major changes to courses, assessment, teaching delivery and university structures are made with genuine student consultation, and that students are told what happened after they gave feedback.
Report Outdated Unit Content+
Momentum will fight to ban outdated unit content, establishing a reporting system where the Guild will share to the university where outdated content is being used.
Publish Recordings Faster+
Momentum will push for the university to ensure that all lecture and tutorial recordings are published straight away.
03

Activities, Clubs & Campus Life

Bigger events, stronger clubs and more spaces to meet people, create things and actually enjoy campus.

More Funding for Clubs+
Momentum will boost funding for clubs, including dedicated major-event sponsorship for large, community-focused events run by student clubs, while making club grants simpler, faster and more transparent so clubs know what funding is available, how decisions are made and why applications succeed or fail.
Refurbish the Guild Tavern+
Momentum will deliver a major refurbishment of the Guild Tavern, creating a more modern, welcoming and flexible venue with improved seating, better event spaces, upgraded facilities and a stronger atmosphere for everything from casual lunches and live music to major student parties.
Bigger Tavern Parties+
Momentum will get students excited about Tavern parties again, turning around declining attendance with bigger, better-promoted events built around what students actually want, not weak and gimmicky themes.
Cut Club Red Tape+
Momentum will undertake a major review of all Guild club policies and processes, in consultation with clubs, with the goal of cutting unnecessary red tape and making administration simpler, clearer and faster, so club executives can spend less time on Curtin & Guild-imposed paperwork and more time running events, building communities and delivering for students.
Reward Club Collaboration+
Momentum will reward and encourage greater collaboration between clubs, including through club funding and incentive schemes, helping clubs pool their ideas, audiences and resources to deliver bigger and better events.
Refurbish GC Central+
Momentum will deliver the refurbishment of GC Central as a more flexible student hub, with improved seating, study and social spaces, better access to power and facilities, and adaptable event spaces that clubs and student groups can use for meetings, workshops, activities and smaller events.
Free Major Sports Watch Parties+
Momentum will bring students together for free watch parties for the world's biggest sporting events, working with cultural and sporting clubs to turn them into genuine community-building events.
More Social Sport+
Momentum will advocate for more regular, low-cost and beginner-friendly social sport, working with clubs and Curtin Sport & Rec to create relaxed activities where students can have fun, de-stress and meet people without needing to join a competitive team.
Celebrate Our Communities+
Momentum will celebrate major cultural and religious occasions across campus, including with the relevant students, clubs and communities leading how their celebrations are delivered.
No AI Slop in Guild Content+
Momentum will direct the Guild not to use AI-generated content, images, video or editing in its marketing and content, including event promotions. Students deserve creative work made by people, not AI-generated slop, and Momentum will prioritise original design, student creativity and authentic content.
New Recreation Room+
Momentum will deliver a communal recreation room where students can relax, recharge and connect between classes, with board games, a gaming lounge, comics, puzzles, creative resources and other calm, low-pressure social activities developed in consultation with students and clubs.
Music & Podcasting Space+
Momentum will deliver a collaborative auditory arts space for students and clubs, with facilities for music, podcasting, recording, rehearsal and other sound-based creative projects, giving students an accessible place to create, collaborate and perform.
Clubs & Societies Assembly+
Momentum will establish a Clubs & Societies Assembly, bringing club leaders together regularly to share ideas, raise issues and provide direct feedback to the Guild on how to improve club support, campus life and student community.
Bring Back Student Media+
Momentum will progress plans to bring back an independent student publication on campus to share news, stories, art and student expression.
More Campus Giveaways & Activations+
Momentum will build stronger partnerships with local businesses, community organisations and student-friendly brands to bring more giveaways, activations and experiences to campus, while supporting local organisations and giving students more value from Guild events.
04

Jobs, Careers & Employability

Create more paid student jobs and make it easier to build the skills, experience and connections that lead to work.

More Student Jobs+
Momentum will create new paid Campus Services Officer jobs for Curtin students, employing students to help deliver and improve services such as common rooms, the Student Pantry, free-food programs, student activities, events and other campus initiatives. The Guild should not just advocate for more student jobs, it should create them.
More Paid Jobs at Curtin+
Momentum will push Curtin to significantly expand the number of paid jobs available to students on campus, across faculties, libraries, events, administration, research and student services. Curtin should be one of the best places for Curtin students to find flexible work that fits around their studies.
Guild Life Toolkit+
Momentum will launch the Guild Life Toolkit program, providing free or heavily subsidised courses, certifications and practical skills training that students can use both at university and in the workplace. This could include first aid, mask-fit testing, food safety, responsible service qualifications, event management, workplace communication, digital and administrative skills, leadership and other recognised training shaped by student demand.
Career Access Grants+
Momentum will trial Career Access Grants to help students facing financial hardship meet unavoidable costs that stand between them and employment, such as required licences, checks, certifications, professional clothing, portfolios or travel to interviews and industry opportunities.
Better Volunteering Opportunities+
Momentum will create more meaningful volunteer opportunities through the Guild and student clubs, giving students practical experience in events, community programs, campaigns, administration, communications and leadership that they can genuinely put on their CV, while ensuring volunteering supplements rather than replaces paid work.
Verified Volunteering Records+
Momentum will investigate a formal Guild volunteering record and reference program, allowing students who make a meaningful contribution through Guild or club volunteering to receive verified records of their experience and, where appropriate, references that can support future job applications.
Career Grants for Clubs+
Momentum will establish career and networking grants for clubs, helping clubs run industry nights, employer panels, alumni events, professional networking sessions and career workshops that are open to all interested students, not only existing club members.
Expand Curtin Careers+
Momentum will advocate for a major expansion of Curtin Careers, with more staff, programs and direct student support and a stronger hands-on focus on actually helping students find work, including job-search assistance, CV and application reviews, interview preparation, career planning and connections with employers.
Careers Where Students Are+
Momentum will push for career support to come to students, with regular faculty and course-specific career pop-ups, workshops and employer sessions across Curtin rather than relying on students to discover and navigate services on their own.
More Paid Internships+
Momentum will advocate for more paid internships, micro-internships, industry projects and work-integrated learning opportunities, giving students practical experience before graduation without expecting them to provide substantial professional labour for free.
Know Your Workplace Rights+
Momentum will run regular workplace rights, wages and tax workshops, helping students understand minimum wages, penalty rates, superannuation, payslips, tax, workplace safety, unpaid trials, wage theft and where to get help when an employer does the wrong thing.
Paid Placements+
Momentum will advocate for every compulsory professional placement to be paid, while continuing to fight for support with placement-related costs such as transport, parking, accommodation, uniforms, vaccinations and mandatory checks. Gaining experience should not mean being pushed into poverty.
Better Opportunity Alerts+
Momentum will push Curtin to provide students with clearer information about graduate programs, internships and recruitment deadlines, so students are not finding out about major opportunities after applications have already closed.
05

Equity & Belonging

A campus where every student can participate, belong and access the spaces, services and support they need.

More Free Period Products+
Momentum will keep expanding free period product dispensers across all campuses until every student has one within easy reach, and fix the basic problem of dispensers being left empty. A dispenser is useless if nobody keeps it stocked. Momentum will also push for more sanitary disposal bins where they are still lacking.
Fix Accessibility Detours+

More Prayer Space+
Momentum will push for a prayer space on the north side of Bentley Campus, consulting with students about prayer facilities, wudu access and other practical religious needs.

Stronger National Voice+
Momentum will ensure the Guild joins the International Student Representative Council of Australia to give Curtin’s international students a stronger national voice.

Better conditions, spaces, representation and opportunities for coursework postgraduates and HDR students.

Momentum will use the Guild’s voice and organising power to build and support campaigns that protect our environment, tackle climate change and defend the future of students and generations to come.

LOADING HOW TO VOTES…

BUILT TO
DELIVER.

Momentum comes from a proud tradition of students who believe the Guild should do one thing above all else: fight for students and deliver.

WHERE WE COME FROM

A PROUD TRADITION OF SHOWING UP.

Our roots are in the organisers, advocates, unionists, club leaders and student representatives who have spent years showing up, doing the work and winning real change for Curtin students.

We inherit a proud history of students who believed representation should mean more than holding a title.

IT SHOULD MEAN GETTING THINGS DONE.
THE RECORD

THE LEGACY IS ALREADY VISIBLE ACROSS CAMPUS.

It is in the things students now use every day.

$5STUDENT SAVER MEALS
11:59UNIVERSAL SUBMISSION TIMES
FREEEXAM-WEEK PARKING
2BETTER-TIMED TUITION-FREE WEEKS

It is stronger student rights, expanded hardship support, more support for clubs and the creation of the Guild Pantry.

It is investment in a better Guild Precinct, and the hard work behind the scenes to keep the Guild strong, sustainable and capable of delivering for students well into the future.

WHEN IT MATTERS

A GUILD HAS TO BE
PREPARED TO FIGHT.

That means standing up for international students when governments make studying in Australia harder and more expensive.

It means fighting for students in accommodation, pushing for safer housing, fairer conditions and stronger protections.

And it means taking on proposals that threaten Curtin students, including attempts to reshape or merge our university without putting students first.

WHY MOMENTUM

WE ARE NOT HERE FOR THE TITLE.

We are not here to collect titles, build CVs or disappear after election week.

WE ARE HERE
TO WORK.

To show up every day. To answer your messages. To sit through the meetings. To challenge the University when it gets things wrong. To organise when students need a stronger voice.

To be accountable for what we promise and judged by what we actually deliver.

REPRESENTATION IS NOT ABOUT HAVING YOUR NAME ON A WEBSITE.
IT IS ABOUT BEING PREPARED TO FIGHT FOR PEOPLE.
WHO WE ARE

WE ARE STUDENTS TOO.

Momentum is made up of real Curtin students from across our university.

We come from different cultures, religions, backgrounds and walks of life. From clubs, classrooms, committees, campuses and communities across Curtin.

We sit in the same lectures. We face the same cost-of-living pressures. We deal with the same assignments, parking, rent, placements, fees and university bureaucracy.

WE ARE NOT SEPARATE FROM THE STUDENTS WE REPRESENT.
WE ARE STUDENTS TOO.
WHAT WE BELIEVE

VALUES ONLY MATTER WHEN THEY BECOME ACTION.

We believe in solidarity. We believe in fairness. We believe in accessible education, strong student representation and a Guild prepared to stand up to powerful institutions when students deserve better.

But values mean very little without action.

01WE KNOW HOW TO ORGANISE.
02WE KNOW HOW TO ADVOCATE.
03WE KNOW HOW TO WIN.

Momentum has the experience to turn student concerns into campaigns, negotiations and real results.

WHAT COMES NEXT

OUR JOB IS TO
BUILD ON IT.

To protect what students have won. To push further. To keep the Guild strong. And to make sure every Curtin student has representatives who will show up, work hard and fight for them when it matters.

WE HAVE THE VALUES.
WE HAVE THE EXPERIENCE.
WE HAVE THE RECORD.
AND WE ARE READY TO KEEP DELIVERING.
THIS IS YOUR GUILD.THIS IS YOUR VOICE.
THIS IS YOUR MOMENT.
